Tyrone Green joins the Rising Stars Youth Foundation as N.Y.C Community Initiatives Director

Posted by Rising Stars on August - 03 - 2013 | 08:05 pm - EDT

Born in the Bronx but raised in the Astoria Housing Projects in Queens, Tyrone Green has been running community clinics for the last two decades. Tyrone has seen first-hand the odds stacked against urban kids, and spent a lifetime working to improve those odds.

His business cards read, “It takes a village to raise a child.”, and his mantra is that education is the key to unlock a kid’s potential.

Mr. Green has been a lifetime friend of Rising Stars founder Paul Savramis and was a part of every initiative Rising Stars spearheaded for at risk areas throughout the city since 1996.

Mr. Green’s role in keeping kids in school, off drugs, and out of gangs is one of NYC’s greatest achievements. In 2010 that achievement was recognized by Mr. Green being awarded New York City’s prestigious LEWIS HINE AWARD.

The Lewis Hine Awards seeks to identify not only the one-time hero, but the individual who has made a life time commitment to the well-being, growth and development of youth. That individual should symbolize exceptional work done to improve the lives of young people.

Coach Tyrone Green has also coached several kids now in the NBA, including, Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls.

Green’s goal in life is to provide every child with an equal opportunity to succeed. He sees Rising Stars as the perfect vehicle for his vision.

Rising Stars teaches and develops strong travel teams to compete on the AAU circuit. All of our coaches and trainers have either played college basketball or coach at the high school level. The Rising Stars difference is that we put our players into a position to succeed. Each year players from the Rising Stars program go on to play college basketball at the Division I, II, and III levels. Over the past four years alone, Rising Stars has sent student athletes to play at Navy, Brown, NYU, Seton Hall, Emory, Haverford, Siena, Yale, Assumption, Adelphi, Vermont, Quinnipiac, St Rose, and Fordham. Rising Stars is also thrilled to announce that Bethany LeSueur, a widely recognized expert and leader in basketball coaching and training, will be the Director of the Rising Stars Girls Basketball program. A six-year starter at guard for Garden City High School, Bethany led her team to three state final fours, three Long Island Championships, three Nassau County Championships, and six Conference Championships. Bethany was twice named Gatorade Player of the Year for New York as well as Miss New York Basketball. She was a Street & Smith All-American as well as a USA Today All-American. Bethany holds the Long Island scoring record with 3,167 points and played in the Nike-WBCA High School All-America game. Bethany was a 3-year starter at Georgetown University as well as a two-year team captain. In three years for the Hoyas, she is one of only seven players in Georgetown history to record over 800 points, 200 assists and 400 rebounds! The key for success is getting involved with the right program, and Rising Stars is it. Come be part of the Rising Stars difference!

Althea B.Williams,

January 21, 2012

Welcome to our new website

Please take the time to read it over and check out each of our slider presentations.  It is our sincere wish that you all get to know us better.  I will be sharing our latest news with you here, as well as keeping you posted on what’s new.  Rising Stars is an educationally based organization.  As an educator and and a parent that base is dear to my heart. As a parent of one of its alumni it is also very personal. We are dedicated to providing instructional programming and we incorporate life lessons into every drill, practice and game we offer. Rising Stars strives to prepare and develop every one of its participants to be healthy, well balanced individuals that will be an asset to society. We encourage each of our players to think for themselves and we reinforce the values that they will need to learn to make correct decisions throughout their formative years.

Within the scope of our educational platform we also take the time to assure that our basketball vehicle remains the best that there is. We believe that competition is a key to developing character and that much of what can be learned in life can be learned through sports and being a part of a team. Our goal is to develop each of our Rising Stars into a complete individual. Prepare d for life and resolved to succeed.

I welcome your comments and feedback and would love to hear of your experiences as a part of our programs.

Please feel free to contact me at althea.williams@risingstarsinc.org and let’s share your story together.
